Volunteers are at the core of the Ivy PTO. From the many individuals that volunteer their time and talents in our classrooms, to the parents who lead our committees and plan our events, everyone's contribution benefits our children and our school. This page has a list of common ways that families can get involved at school. You can use this form to let the PTO know how you’d like to participate.

In all cases, everyone must fill out the Albemarle County Schools Volunteer Application and receive approval before engaging in volunteer work, even if that work takes place outside of the school.

Please contact the IVY PTO Co-Presidents, at presidents@ivypto.org, with any questions.

Specials Parent

Help one of the specials (art, music, PE, or library) with logistics, gathering supplies, and organizing events.

Art Print

Present an art lesson in your child's classroom, volunteering only once a month for October - May (no December). All information and supplies are provided. You do not need to have a background in art, just a desire to expose the class to something new and fun, and give the teacher a little break. You can give it your own twist and there is no way to mess up. Email Lexy McCallum if interested!

Friends of the Library

Friends of the Library brings fresh, interesting books to the Ivy library while teaching the importance of supporting libraries. Books purchased through Friends of the Library are quality books that are designed to hold up to elementary school usage.

Field Trip Chaperone

Volunteer to chaperone one of the school’s field trips.

Event Prep

The Ivy PTO organizes many events throughout the year and they all depend on volunteers like you. Please reach out to let us know how you can help with any of our events, including:

New Family Welcome

Welcome to the Ivy Elementary community! Our New Family Welcome Committee offers events for new families of each year. We are happy to answer your questions all year round - just contact us at outreach@ivypto.org and we’ll get you connected with a committee member.

Staff Appreciation

Staff Appreciation Committee provides meals, snacks, and appreciation events for Ivy Elementary faculty and staff on special occasions, select teacher workdays and stock the lounge days. Volunteers are needed to organize, deliver, and decorate for various events!
